An evening of torrential rain that threatened to cancel the May 12 Commencement ceremonies gave way to sunshine on the big day for more than 1,400 degree candidates.
Fifteen Bonner Community Scholars from the College traveled to Camp Premiere at St. Bernard Parish to assist in relief efforts to homes stricken by Hurricane Katrina. They joined the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) and the Habitat for Humanity of New Orleans from May 7-14 and spent a week gutting houses so they can either be rebuilt or demolished.
More than 100 students, faculty and staff members gathered outside the new library on Friday, April 28 for a tree-planting ceremony in memory of freshman student John Fiocco, Jr.

On Tuesday, May 23, a Public Issues Summit was held on campus on the subject of immigration. The event included a keynote address by New Jersey Assemblyman Bill Baroni followed, by an open forum of deliberation shared by over 100 participants from New Jersey.
Individual and corporate philanthropy was the focus of The College of New Jersey Foundation’s Sixth Annual Spring Gala, which was hosted on campus the evening of Friday, May 19.
