ENERGY Conservation Initiative Yields $148k in Savings
“Each person within TCNJ’s many buildings plays a vital role in helping to control energy costs through deliberate, continued conservation." With energy costs much higher than last year, the savings represent a significant amount of conserved energy. The initiative involves two different plans, each formatted for energy consumption patterns during the summer months and the winter months, and a range of strategies, including implementation of temperature controls, policies addressing light and equipment usage in offices, and others. The conservation efforts will continue for the remainder of the summer and into the fall months. Energy is one of our most precious, yet under-appreciated, commodities, said Lori Winyard, the director of mechanical engineering in the College’s facilities office. “Each person within TCNJ’s many buildings plays a vital role in helping to control energy costs through deliberate, continued conservation. The success of this energy conservation effort depends upon the concerted effort, dedication, and determination of all faculty, staff, and students,” she explained. With energy prices soaring sky high on a national level, The College of New Jersey began an effort earlier this year to reduce the amount of energy needed to operate its offices, residence halls, and facilities. During the months of April, May and June of 2006, the energy conservation initiative has yielded the College savings of more than $148,000 when compared to costs from 2005.
