2. Press the green Scan key.
3. Seven grey buttons will appear at the bottom of the monitor screen. The first six buttons (1, 4, 16, 64, 256, and 1024) refer to the number of scans. The last grey button is the execute button. If you want to do the background scan with the default number of scans, press the execute button. If you want to change the number of scans, select the grey button on the keypad corresponding to the desired number of scans. You may need to press the execute button if the analysis does not start automatically after selecting the number of scans. When the background scan is complete, it will automatically return to the last data register used.
Sample Scan
1. There are three registers that can temporarily store data (IR spectra). They are the green buttons labeled X, Y, and Z.
2. Press the key for the register (X, Y, or Z) that you wish to use.
3. Press the green Scan key.
4. Select the number of scans (16 is sufficient). You may need to press the execute button if the analysis does not start automatically after selecting the number of scans.

Scaling
1. There are two ways to change the appearance of your spectrum.
a. To change the vertical scale (y-axis), press the blue setup button. Press the grey button on the keypad that corresponds to the rescale button on the monitor. Type in the desired values. Press enter after typing each value.
b. To change the horizontal scale (x-axis), press the blue setup button. Press the grey button on the keypad that corresponds to the rerange button on the monitor. Type in the desired values. Press enter after typing each value.
Printing
1. There are two ways to obtain a printout of your spectrum.
a. Press the grey print button to get a small (1/3 of a page) printout.
b. Press the grey plot button to get a large (full page) printout.
Peak Table
1. Press the white shift button (bottom-center of keypad), followed by the peaktable key (X button).
2. Indicate the region for which you want a peak table generated (4000-600 is typical).
3. Press the grey button that corresponds to the print button on the monitor.
4. Press one of the register keys (X, Y, or Z) to get back to your spectrum.
5. If you find that your peak table lists too many peaks, you can change the peak threshold by pressing the blue setup button. Press the grey button on the keypad that corresponds to the view button on the monitor. Press the grey button on the keypad that corresponds to the peaks button on the monitor.
