Chemistry Photo Gallery
Building and GroundsThe Chemistry Department is located in the North Wing of the new, state of the art Science Complex which opened in the Fall of 2002. The courtyard and fountain area pictured below was completed in Summer 2004. The physical plant contains classrooms, a computer lab, teaching laboratories, research laboratories, faculty offices, as well as links to the Biology and Physics buildings. |
||
ClassroomsThe chemistry building contains 3 full classrooms for lecture classes, but also shares other classrooms and large group lecture rooms in the adjacent physics building. All classrooms in the new science complex are complete with traditional chalk boards and dry-erase marker boards. In order to enhance learning, classrooms are equipped with overhead digital projectors, computers/laptop wiring, and network access. |
||
LaboratoriesThe brand new chemistry building contains 2 general chemistry teaching labs, 2 organic chemistry teaching labs, an inorganic teaching lab, an analytical teaching lab, 3 analytical instrumentations labs, an NMR lab, an X-Ray diffraction lab, as well as numerous faculty research laboratories. All laboratories are complete with advanced safety equipment. |
||
EquipmentThe Chemistry Department houses numerous analytical instruments located in labs throughout the building. Pictured below are some of the most commonly used instruments and some new arrivals. Much of the hands-on experience provided to students in upper-level courses prepares them for very similar equipment used in industry. |

NMR LabThe Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy lab is an invaluable resource in both independent research and academic classes. The Chemistry Department uses 2 NMR spectometers, 60Mhz and 300Mhz, pictured below. |

Commencement- Class of 2005
Despite graduating on Friday May 13th, the class of 2005 commencement went off without a hitch on this very superstitious day. The Chemistry Department graduated 20 seniors. Six of those seniors also graduated with a Concentration of Forensic Science in addition to the Chemistry degree.
