Get Involved

TCNJ Circle K participates in many volunteer projects both on the local and national scale.
There are plenty of opportunities for you to get involved.

Here are some of the projects we'll be doing in the upcoming semester.

Weekly Projects

TASK Tutoring: (2 hours weekly - Not currently running this weekly project)
We tutor with an adult education program at the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) for 2 hours a week.  We tutor many different levels of education in math, reading, and other assorted areas, helping the adults achieve a GED or similar degree.

Mt. Carmel Food Pantry: (1.5 hours weekly - Thursdays 10:15-11:45am, contact Christine: wolff8)
We help wherever we are needed at this food pantry in Trenton.  We could be stocking shelves, unloading new food items, preparing bags to be sent away, or checking food to be sent out to needy families around the area.

Foundation Academy Charter School: (Information Coming!)
Information coming!

Library for the Blind: (2 hours weekly - Fridays 9:45-11:15, contact Hope: fine2)
We read newspapers articles from newspapers throughout the state aloud to be recorded and broadcast throughout the state over the radio for those who are unable to read, whether blind or visually impaired.  We read for about an hour and then help behind the scenes with rewinding and organizing the tapes.

Wilson After School Program: (2 hours - Mondays 3:30-5:30, contact Liz: breen5)
We assist at an after school program in Trenton for children K-5. Recently we have been assisting with their science enrichment program for 4th and 5th graders.

2 to 5 members may attend each of our weekly projects.

Other Service Projects

Mt. Carmel Weekly Visits: (many hours, 2-5 members each visit)
The week before Thanksgiving is Mt. Carmel's busiest week of the year.  Each year, we go daily to help them with the rush of providing a Thanksgiving dinner to all the needy families of the Trenton area.  We also hold a food drive on the TCNJ campus to provide them with extra food for these families.

Womanspace Luminary Kit Making: (3 hours, 8-10 members)
Womanspace is an organization dedicated to raising money and awareness to fight violence against women.  We help put together the luminary kits that they sell as a fundraiser and repair kits left over from past sales.

Late Night Service: (2 hours, many members)
Once every semester we host this fun mix of service and social activities.  We gather on a Saturday night in a lounge in one of the residence halls on campus to make cards for overseas soldiers and sick children, and make sandwiches for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen.  It is a great way to do service and make some new Circle K friends!

Light The Night Walk: (6 hour shifts, many members)
This yearly walk held by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of NJ is just one of the ways we help out with this fantastic organization.  We help out with everything from setting up in the beginning of the day to guiding walkers to the finish line at the end of the walk.  The walk helps to raise valuable funds for awareness and research about lymphoma and leukemia.
