Commencement Day Events

Commencement Day events are summarized below.  This year’s format will include a President’s Reception in addition to the Main Ceremony and individual Department Ceremonies.

President’s Reception

President Gitenstein will host a reception as part of Commencement 2008.  The reception will now be held on the lawn between Paul Loser Hall and the Music Building from 8:30-10:30 a.m. and 1:00-3:00 p.m.  We are pleased to invite you and your guests to this celebration.

Main Ceremony

The Main Ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. in Lions’ Stadium. Graduates are asked to begin lining up, in cap and gown, by 10:00 a.m. on C Street.  C Street is the road that runs behind Travers/Wolfe and the Recreation Center.
Graduates will be asked to line up by school.  There will be signs to indicate where each school’s line up will begin.  Volunteers will be available to assist you in finding your school line.  Please arrive promptly at 10:00 a.m. so that the Main Ceremony can begin on time.

Severe Inclement Weather Note

The Main Ceremony is an outdoor ceremony. In the event of severe inclement weather, the Main Ceremony will not be held.  The President’s Reception and the individual Department Ceremonies will be held as scheduled. Learn about specific details regarding the Rain Plan.

Department Ceremonies

Department Ceremonies will take place before and after the Main Ceremony.  Morning Department Ceremonies will begin at 8:30 a.m.  Afternoon Department Ceremonies will begin at 1:00 p.m.  Department Ceremonies will last approximately one hour.  Specifics on your Department Ceremony time and location can be found on the Department Ceremony portion of this web site.  (Please check this information periodically and before the end of the semester to be certain no changes to times or locations have been made). View locations.

Guests do not need tickets to attend the individual Department Ceremonies but each graduate is limited to three guests.  If you have questions or require further information regarding an individual Department Ceremony, please contact the dean or department chair. The telephone numbers for schools & departments can be found on the Important Phone Number portion of this web site.

Diplomas

You will receive your diploma cover during your Department Ceremony.  Because Commencement is so close to end of the final exam period, there is insufficient time to confirm all graduates by May, 16.  Once the fulfillment of your degree requirements has been confirmed, you will receive your diploma by mail.  Diplomas should be received approximately six weeks after Commencement.  If you have recently moved, please be sure to notify the Office of Records & Registration of your correct address.

Note for Students with Outstanding Financial Obligations

If you have any outstanding financial obligation you will not receive your diploma or transcript.  Outstanding financial obligations include parking tickets, library fines, student loan exit interviews, etc.  The Office of Records & Registration has sole eligibility for determining eligibility to graduate. Please contact the Office of Records & Registration with any questions.
