Dr. Hu earned her Ph.D. in Mass Communications at Penn State University, her master’s degree in Communication at Chinese University of Hong Kong, and her bachelor’s degree in Journalism at Renmin University of China.
Dr. Hu’s most recent work focuses on the roles and effects of new media and emerging technologies in health communication. She has published seven peer-reviewed journal articles in such publications as Communication Research, Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, Journalism & Mass Communication Educator, Atlantic Journal of Communication, Open Communication Journal, and Communication & Management Research.
Dr. Hu teaches Introduction to Communication Studies and New Media and Health Communication. Dr. Hu is especially interested in pedagogical innovations. She has incorporated Second Life, a 3D virtual world, into her classes (see Using Second Life, Hu Opens Up a New World of Communication to her Students and Students get virtual lecture for more details).
Dr. Hu serves on the Editorial Board of Atlantic Journal of Communication. She reviews manuscripts for Communication Quarterly, Journal of Family Communication, and Atlantic Journal of Communication.
