Math/Stat Department's Greatest Assets
Graduation Date:
I think I am fully prepared to teach any field
of Mathmatics and would even like to continue my own mathmatic education.
Graduation Date:
Graduation Date:
I received a strong content knowledge of
mathematics and various educational processes in teaching mathematics.
Graduation Date:
Mathmatics at TCNJ was surelly a rigorous
program. I got very used to having a
large challenging work load. Because of
this I have found work at
graduate
school to be quite manageable. I always
felt that faculty at TCNJ was thorough and maticulous about problems discussed
or assigned. I
feel very confident in tackling challenging
problems here at graduate school. Ithink also that the option to study a topic
independently is a great
asset.
Graduation Date:
There are not many schools that have a
statistics program. Many people that I have come across have a strong math
background but no background
in stat.
I feel that puts me at a good advantage.

Graduation Date:
Inside the classroom I learned more about math
than I ever realized existed. I'm
stronger in some areas than others, certainly, but at least I know
something about the higher, more complicated,
and abstract areas of math, even if it's simply tht these subjects exist!
Outside of the classroom, I
learned how to work with a partner or team, and
that more than one brain is often required to prove a theorem!
Graduation Date:
Same as #3
Graduation Date:
Dr. Liebars and Dr. Cunningham's great ideas for
making classrooms fun and interactive.
Graduation Date:
I think writing proofs and learning how to think
logically are soem of the most important things, however, in my graduate
program, i don't see proofs
being a factor.
Instead, I think linear algebra and number theory will prove to be of
greater importance, and I think I got a decent start on them at
TCNJ.
Graduation Date:
I feel as though I am graduating with a
tremendous amount of mathematical knowledge, thanks to the department.
Graduation Date:
The best thing I can say about the Math and Stat
department is that the professors were always available for extra help int heir
office hours.
Graduation Date:
TCNJ did an excellent job of offering a wide
variety of mathematics concepts and classes.
Graduation Date:
I loved the history of math class and the
methods of teaching math classes. I wish
I had more methods classes because that is what I will use the
most when teaching.
Graduation Date:
very good teachers
Graduation Date:
I feel that the math program is
challenging. I was fortunate enough to
have some really great professors, some of whom inspired me to pursue
other academic goals in my future. I feel that I will be successful in graduate
school because I was so well challenged in my program at the math
department.
Graduation Date:
challenging yet fair courses
Graduation Date:
The greatest assets are the mathematical truths
that I have discovered and or been taught, and not just the truths themselves,
but the process of
discovery and presistance to conclusion.
Graduation Date:
The professors in the Mathematics and Statistics
Department are truely wonderful. They
challenge their students and make the material
comprehendable.
They are willing to help students during their free time and in general
do a great job teaching.
Graduation Date:
I think the methods of teaching courses are
great and give many helpful ways to teach.
Graduation Date:
I entered with an aversion to statistics and
geometry...I'm leaving loving them, due as much to the professors as the actual
subject.
Graduation Date:
The greatest asset from the Math Dept was the
level of challenge the classes provided.
My math classes forced me to really slow down and work
hard in order to fully understand the
material. These classes also helped me
learn how to 'think'--particularly, to think analytically; I feel that this
skill
will be
very beneficial to me in the future.
Additionally, the methods classes were very worthwhile, giving me
insight to the newest teaching
philosophies and methods, and I had the
opportunity to try out many of these methods and ideas in my student teaching
and JPE.
Graduation Date:
The math and stat department was always willing
to help. Professors made it quite clear that they were always ready and willing
to help students.
Graduation Date:
The methods courses gave valuable information,
and the student teaching and field experience were invaluable in preparing me
to become a teacher.
Graduation Date:
The methods class gave me some good activities
that I have tried in the classroom.
Graduation Date:
Realizing that it is my responsiblity to do my
own work. Math is something that you
need to learn by yourself. You must find
a way to teach yourself
mathematics.
This idea alone of teaching yourself new concepts is what people need to
do to excel in life. The math program
has given me the
confidence that I can teach myself something new
as well as solve problems efficiently.
In addition, I know where to reference Math theories or
techniques that will help me solve a math
problem, (which was learned in a classroom).
Graduation Date:
I feel that Methods II really prepared me to
teach middle school
Graduation Date:
By and large, I found my experiences with the
Mathematics and Statistics Department to be exceptional. There were many teachers who were not
only quite knowledgeable but also able to convey
their knowledge in an enthusiastic manner, in an interactive classroom setting,
and in a venue that
invited challenging thought and questions. The teachers offered additional practice
sessions, extended office hours, letters of recommendation,
independent studies, and general encouragement
that I am sure greatly contributed to many students' success. Most of the courses contained
much valuable material and progressed at an
efficient pace. Homework and tests were
generally fair and truly helped students master mathematics.
Graduation Date:
Since it's a relatively small department,
students and professors become well-acquainted, and I believe that helps
students feel familiar enough to
go to office hours and just to visit their professors
in general. This is especially important in a field like math where many
courses require extensive
out of the classroom studying.
Graduation Date:
The math classes I had were very in-depth and
thorough, and I learned, and was challenged, more in them than in my other
classes.
Graduation Date:
The professors in this department are wonderful.
I came here as a math major because I had always liked math and thought it was
fun. The
professors taught me that mathematics is a much
richer subject than I ever knew. They showed me the beauty and intricate
connections within
mathematics, and their enthusiasm was
contagious. Their high standards and constant encouragement pushed me to work
harder and go beyond
what I would have had the confidence to attempt
on my own. I would not have gotten as far as I have without their help. I am so
grateful for the quality
education I have received from such excellent
faculty. I will miss this department, but I feel prepared and look forward to
continue studying
mathematics in graduate school.
Graduation Date:
The professors are by far the best part of the
department. They are compassionate, they are knowledgeable, and they are
appoachable. I always was
afraid that I would have professors that I
wouldn't be able to go to for help, but that wasn't the case at all.
Graduation Date:
There were many great professors after whom I
can see myself modeling my own teaching style.
Graduation Date:
The faculty in the mathematics department are
very supportive and really were there for me when I was in their classes. They wanted you not only to
do well but also to understand the concepts.I am
going away with not only knowledge from my classes but understanding of
mathematical concepts.
Also methods on how to teach mathematics.
Graduation Date:
I think that the classes were very challenging
and forced me to really learn in depth material. Most of the teachers were also very good
about being
available to meet.
Graduation Date:
I love the professors in this department. They are always accessable and love to help
out with advice and work help.
Graduation Date:
The faculty in the department was always more
than willing to lend a helping hand, even with non-academic issues. I have gained a greater variety
of mathematics knowledge than many of my friends
at other colleges and universities.
Graduation Date:
The Math and Statistics Department was readily
available to help me with any problems that may have occurred throughout my
career, especially
with scheduling for classes.
Graduation Date:
Professors were very helpful and trying to help
all of the students, even those who aren't math/stat majors.
Graduation Date:
The best thing about the Math department is Dr.
xxxx. She is the best role model for
teaching that I have seen. She not only
communicates her
information to her students effectively but she
shows true compassion for them as well.

Highly qualified professors. They know how to teach and nurture positive
relationships with their students.
Challenging coursework. Willingness
to do an independent study with a student with a
high interest level. My greatest asset
is the same as that in 3a...the ability to think critically and
adapt quickly.
Graduation Date: 5/1/2006 Major Code: MATT
The professors and their knowledge are beyond
words. I am so grateful to have worked with everyone here. There have been so
many opportunities
in my junior and senior year to excel
academically and educationally.

I talked about the best things about the
department in 2b. The greatest asset I'm
leaving the department with is probably my appreciation for math,
particularly pure math. This is a result of not only the several
courses I have taken here, but the enthusiasm they were taught with. Before TCNJ, I
had no intentions of graduate school or
teaching, but after 4 years here I plan on spending the rest of my life
teaching and learning math.

Greatest thing abou tthe Math department is
great teaching. Teachers rock.
Graduation Date: 5/1/2006 Major Code: MATA
As stated above, I definitely feel that i
learned and retained a lot of information, and I enjoyed the classes I took,
for the most part. I also liked that the
professors expressed their enthusiasm for math,
which was not always the case with other departments I encountered in the
school.

Logic. I think learning ways to prove things and ways to state things are all
very
important in broadening the way we think. I'm
glad I learned it and practiced it.

The professors in the Mathematics and Statistics
Department were incredibly kind and knowledgeable.
Graduation Date: 12/1/2006 Major Code: ELMA
The faculty is always available to answer and
questions or problems, and I learned alot from each teacher. The teachers are well-qualified and very
helpful.
I enjoyed taking many of my math classes and wish there were
opportunities to take more higher level classes with my major.
Graduation Date: 12/1/2006 Major Code: MATT
Professors always willing to give extra time, help,
and guidance. Solid math background for future employment.
