The Pennant Race (hear their music!)
Whine Cellar(hear their music!) R>Hailing from the cultural Mecca of East Hanover, Whine Cellar blends early alternative subtleties with classic rock theatrics. The year 2001 saw the release of our debut album "Meet Me At The West Trail" (under our former name New Galaxy). Recently, the group has refocused its sound into a lyrically matured, refreshing blend aimed at listeners seeking more than loud guitars and obscene language. Whine Cellar's live performances incorporate a raw energy and ludicrous spontaneity far removed from your average bar band.

Hear and
see her play before you attend!
Jill Sobule is one of those rare musicians who gets inside your head before you even realize she's there. Clever lyrics are surrounded by melodies that just plain sneak up on you - and will leave you humming her songs for days. Jill writes stories of Life, the Universe, and Everything. You'll laugh and cry with her characters, sing in the shower and air guitar or drum along with this standout artist. Jill can move you - some of her softer songs can make your heart hurt. In concert she is personable, friendly and funny - but make no mistake, when she drops her acoustic guitar for the electric, she can be VERY mean. Jill Rocks.

Listen before you hear her live!"The 24-year-old Stanford grad left behind a fast-track career in Silicon Valley to pursue her true passion: music. And we're lucky she did. Teng, who has been writing songs since age six, has a talented, versatile voice that glides effortlessly through her music. Even more refreshing, though, is her candor. Here is a real person, struggling with real issues like the rest of us. Teng's beautifully crafted lyrics come straight from the heart and embrace the uncertainty of life." -Melisa Gao

"If you've heard one funk band, you've heard them all...unless of course you've heard The Blue Method. Philadelphia's finest new funk, The Blue Method, is a powerhouse of downtown heart, that demonstrates a strong legitimacy with their debut album, Kill the Music Vol. 1. Jerseyband plays Lungcore - A new genre that
infuses a horn-driven band with heavy metal values. Backed by drums,
electric guitar, and guitar synth, Jerseyband's horns (three saxophones and
a trumpet) cut through meaty arrangements that shock their audiences into
submission. Enthusiasts have compared their sound to Mr. Bungle, Zappa, and

own genre of horn driven metal called Lungcore.

Come on out and see this semester's first Friday evening Rat Show featuring Disciples of Groove, a Funk-Rock band from Vineland New Jersey who are no strangers to the Philly music scene. Disciples of Groove have played such legendary venues as the Grape Street Pub and the Trocadero! Check out more info about Disciples of Groove on their website: http://www.disciplesofgroove.net.
"It's exciting and electric, funky and eccentric. The directions of these Disciples will pull listeners into an aural tug-of-war with funk and rock. While this combination is no second-coming of the wheel, these musicians have laced their flavor with fatty punches and natural orchestration. Top-notch musicianship all around - and with the gift to not overplay. Vocally they're working with the crisp 70's innocence of 1-inch tape and no effects." - Anthony Caroto, Orgivation Magazine

A Review from a Previous Show Jam On The River Review From Jambase.com "The guys in The Blue Method need some hefty props! After their 2004 debut Kill The Music: Volume 1, the band won the 2005 Relix JamOff and were named the "Best New Home Grown Band of 2005." Saturday's show was led by massive frontman Brian Williams, a singer who has a triple-threat arsenal of voice, trumpet, and trombone. Brian carried a spirit that could have brought the city to their feet. They played to a 1500-person crowd and knocked out some serious funk. Songs like their newly recorded "The Bounce" brought one of the liveliest early shows at Jam on the River to date." - Jake Krolick

Each of their songs has a distinct voice of their own, and also draws from the rich musical traditions of American popular music from the Jazz age to the Alternative revolution." -Scott Kuchinsky

On November 7th the Ryan Montbleau Band rolls into TCNJ with a mission to bring down the house! Ryan Montbleau Band is building a bridge between Americana, folk, blues, ragtime, 70’s soul and the contemporary singer-songwriter vibe of artists like Martin Sexton, David Gray and Ray Lamontagne. Having begun his career playing Boston's coffee shops and folk venues as a solo artist with an infectious, percussive, finger-picking guitar style, the charismatic Ryan Montbleau has evolved into the front man for the dynamic, eclectic ensemble that bears his name. "Ryan Montbleau could well be the love child of Ben Harper + Martin Sexton + Stevie Wonder. If John Mayer could jazz up his pansy rock and extend his range, he'd still envy Ryan's songs." - Boston's Weekly Dig January 2003

CUB RAT is proud to present:
Paulson
The Dear Hunter
Hand Me Down Buick
House of Fools
Band Bios Below:
Paulson is a NJ-Based indie rock/electronica band.
In the last year they have performed over 250 shows in 34 states and Canada, touring with the likes of Senses Fail (Vagrant), Midtown (Columbia), Moneen (Vagrant), Bear Vs. Shark (Equal Vision), Folly (Triple Crown), Far-less (Tooth & Nail), The Break (Ferret), Jenoah (Drive-Thru), Endicott (Equal Vision), and many others, despite having no booking agent or management. They have also appeared on major festivals like The Bamboozle, The Warped Tour, Worcester Skate Fest, Flipside Festival and done prominent one-offs with bands like Brand New, Something Corporate, Fall Out Boy, The Starting Line and many others. Selections from their debut can be heard on MTVʼs Real World, major radio stations like NYCʼs K-Rock, and on the upcoming “Taste Of Chaos” DVD.
Their new album, entitled “All At Once,” is focused and subtle. Gone are the screamed vocals and power chords; instead the listener finds a wash of keyboards and computer sequences, tight, dancey drums and even a lap steel solo. Odd time signatures still abound, but compelling vocal harmonies and mature songwriting are the focus. The artwork, inspired by Japanese modern artist Takashi Murakami, is further evidence that this is a band who continues to stand apart from the pack. http://www.purevolume.com/paulson/ http://www.paulsonisaband.com/
The Dear Hunter:
The Dear Hunter is a band from the Boston area. The band originally began as a side project of ex The Receiving End of Sirens guitarist/ singer Casey Crescenzo. He was a member of The Receiving End of Sirens from 2004 to the spring of 2006.
Casey parted ways with The Receiving End of Sirens and began to focus full time on The Dear Hunter. He started out by forming a full band that includes long-time friend Luke Dent, as well as Erick Serna, and Sam Dent. The Dear Hunter's first EP The Lake South, The River North was released on Triple Crown Records on September 26, 2006.
The Dear Hunter's first full length album should be out sometime early Spring 2007 http://www.purevolume.com/thedearhunter http://www.myspace.com/tdh

Natural Selection
Friday, April 20, 2007
Natural Selection, the brainchild of Alesia Dessau, has been in it's current incarnation since 2002. As their name suggests, the Philadelphia-based ensemble's current style of music is the result of “evolution.” The group originally formed as a straight-ahead jazz combo, but has since transformed to an original soul sound that includes inflections of funk, R&B, jazz, rock & hip-hop. The current members of the collective are experienced in virtually all styles of western music, and the resulting creations of these talented musicians have a wide appeal.
