The Student Government Association proudly presents The Honorable Cory A. Booker, Mayor of the City of Newark

It is the distinct pleasure of the Student Government Association to host a lecture with the Honorable Cory A. Booker, Mayor of the City of Newark, on Tuesday, October 27 at 8:00 p.m., in the Mildred and Ernest E. Mayo Concert Hall.

To his supporters, Mayor Booker’s “self-sacrificial tale is heroic”, (TIME Magazine, July 2009). Mayor Booker grew up in a middle class New Jersey suburb, attended Stanford, Oxford, and Yale, yet still has chosen to live in one of the poorest housing projects and areas in Newark.

He has been nationally recognized for his efforts to revitalize Newark and continues to dedicate himself to this challenging mission, despite an invitation from President Obama to consider a position in his administration as the Director of Urban Affairs. He has been the subject of two critically acclaimed documentaries, one of which was nominated for an Academy Award.

Described by The Washington Post, as “…an African American politician with limitless potential—the next Barack Obama, plus GQ looks,” the Student Government is both honored and excited to host Mayor Booker for his first visit to the College. This lecture is open to the campus community.
