Meeting Minutes 9/7/05
First, here’s your Executive Board:
(we had to fill the VP position unexpectedly, so Carolyn moved up from treasurer to VP and Amanda moved up from Historian to Treasurer)

There are other organizations on campus that use points systems, we’re going to base ours on some of theirs. It’s still in the experimental stages, but we’ll be firming things up as the year goes on. Just bear with us, we promise, everyone will win this year!
A lot of people have expressed interest in DHC t-shirts. If you’re interested, contact the Treasurer, Amanda Walsh at email@example.com .
We established six committees that will take care of various aspects of our activities and had sign-ups for them. You’ll find a complete list of them and descriptions about them at the bottom of the minutes. If you want to join one, please e-mail the club and the chair of the committee.
Gimme Jimmy’s Cookies
This is a fundraiser we’re thinking of doing near the end of October. It’s a deaf-run business and we hear they have great cookies!
There’s a Deaf culture festival in East Brunswick on Sunday, September 18. I believe you can find more info on www.deaftimes.com. Some club members are going, so if you need a ride let us know and we’ll see what we can do.
Gallaudet Dance Troupe
This is very exciting! We’re sponsoring a performance by the Dance Troupe from Gallaudet University on October 15th! We’re going to need a bunch of volunteers for that night, but we’ll keep you posted on it!
Family Learning Conference
Saturday, October 29, there is a conference for deaf and hearing parents of deaf children. They’re looking for volunteers for their child care center. No sign language skills are required. Contact Dr. Slobodzian for more info.
We’re thinking about asking Miss Deaf NJ to come give a speech, but we’re not sure yet. Let us know what you think!
There seems to be a campus wide Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort. We want to get involved somehow and Dr. Slobodzian mentioned that the Louisiana School for the Deaf and the Mississippi School for the Deaf were affected, so maybe we can do something to help them out. Outreach committee people, let’s look into this. E-mail the club with anything you think might be useful.
We’re going to have our first silent lunch of the year on Wednesday, September 28 in the Student Center. Bring your own lunch and come either sign or watch others sign. Don’t worry if you can’t sign, you’ll still fit in just fine!
