The 1962 E-Type Jaguar Restoration Project ( created 12/11/02 )
Link to Ralph and Bonnie's 1967 German GP photosA photo documentary of the restoration of the Edelbach's 1962 E-Type roadster completed between 1976 and 1979. The MGA MKII Deluxe we owned for 10 years or so was sold to finance this project. Working with Ralph to complete this job were wife Bonnie, as well as sons Doug and Kurt. They appear in a number of the photographs below.
As is evident in the photos, the car was absolutely FANTASTIC in power, handling, and appearance. We all had a great time working on and completing the project. Shortly after finishing the construction of our new home in Ringoes, NJ and moving into it, the car was sold to an enthusiast from Tennessee who flew up and drove it home. Except for having to replace the cooling fan motor at a Jaguar dealer in Washington, D.C. and taking on a bit of water going through a downpour, the trip was made in comfort and style. We haven't heard anything about the car since it was purchased I believe in 1982. Would be nice to have it now!
Kurt and Doug waiting anxiously for me to quit taking photos and get back to
work . Dropping in the engine
The front sub-frame in
primer
Cad-plated front suspension installed
with the head in position..
The head on the block for the first time and setting up the camshafts
Rear suspension before the "cage" went
on. The power brake booster
assembly
Four shock absorbers and
inboard disk brakes
and dual brake master cylinders.
The triple 2" S.U. carbs. Trying to install the engine
and transmission without damaging the painted sub-frame.
The body in primer and base coat.
Putting the bonnet together after replacing the center section
and prepping the wire wheels.
Rubbing out one of the 15 or so coats of lacquer was rewarding
too.
Getting close to the end. Most of the big stuff is done. Just the
smaller items remain to be completed.
Ready to fire it up and see how it actually runs. Will it work?
If so, for how long?
Bonnie goes on the first ride around the neighborhood and then Doug and Kurt get
their chance.
Looks OK so far. Nothing big or important seems to have
fallen off.......yet.
Jim Ackers going for a ride with a neighbor looking on.
Notice that the headlights aren't in place yet. Who cares!
The finished project with and without the factory hardtop
in place. Looks great either way!
At the new house in Ringoes.
A quality and vintage power plant!
One of the many shows we attended.
Ready for the road and inspection. It passed with flying colors
