DESCRIPTION: This is a specialized program designed to provide mental health services for the deaf and hard of hearing community. The ACCESS program is housed at Barnert Hospital, a 256-bed acute care facility. A staff of deaf and hearing professionals with backgrounds in a variety of disciplines, fluent in ASL and trained in deafness and Deaf Culture, offer services such as: outpatient therapy, a psychiatric rehabilitation program, psychiatric emergency services, a residential program, independent living services, integrated case management services, and consultation and training.
SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES: Ranges from one-time activities in helping at holiday parties to on-going tutoring sessions of life-skills development to foster independent living opportunities for clients of ACCESS program.

DESCRIPTION: The Deaf Ministry of the Assemblies of God organization (a Pentecostal denomination) reaches out to those who need help in coming to know God, have problems in their home, or are troubled by any of a multitude of other things that keep people from being happy and fulfilled, or need someone who cares. All main worship services are interpreted for the Deaf. Pastor Nancy Tonnessen preaches to the Deaf the 3rd Sunday of each month at 10:45 A.M.

DESCRIPTION: The services of the New Jersey Library for the Blind and Handicapped (Deaf and Hard of Hearing Awareness Program) are available without charge to deaf and hard of hearing individuals living in New Jersey. Loans of books, videotapes, magazines, reference materials to are available for one month time period. Materials may be requested through interlibrary loan by local, state and educational libraries. Assistive Devices, such as TTY's, Closed Caption Decoders, and other assistive devices are available for one-month loan. In addition to the state library in Trenton, there are fifteen Regional Resource Centers located throughout New Jersey.
