Security Clearance to Work or Engage in a Practicum at MKSD
1. Who needs security clearance?
Any TCNJ student who will be working with MKSD students for more than 2 days will need to obtain MKSD clearance. TCNJ students who are working at MKSD as a part of a TCNJ course requirement (e.g., the Pre-professional Practicum for DHH 323 or Internship II--Deaf Education Student Teaching for DFHH 690) do not need security clearance. Clearance is not needed for one-time observations or for special programs.
TCNJ students who seek a position as a volunteer on the MKSD campus will need to work with Mrs. Provost in obtaining both the security clearance and a volunteer placement. Security clearance includes fingerprinting which requires a nominal fee. This fee will be reimbursed by MKSD.
2. When should I apply for clearance?
Security clearance must be obtained PROIR to working with MKSD students. The process takes 2 to 3 weeks. TCNJ teacher candidates must have clearance PRIOR to being enrolled in DHH 323.
3. For how long is the clearance good?
MKSD helps students obtain security clearance from the New Jersey State Police. This clearance is valid as long as students are enrolled at TCNJ.
4. How do I apply for MKSD security clearance?
TCNJ students must make an appointment with Mrs. Margaret Provost. She can be reached at 609/530-3156 or at margaret_provost@mksd.state.nj.us. Her office is in the Enrollment Office which is located in Clock Tower Building, Room 105 on the MKSD campus.
TCNJ students will need to bring their college ID with them to the appointment.
5. What is TCNJ's role in the security clearance process?
The College has NO role in this process. All inquires should be made to Mrs. Provost at MKSD.
