The Master of Education in Educational Leadership is designed for college graduates who wish to become school principals. Successful completion of the program requires 33 credits of study. The program of study is designed to help students develop an in depth understanding of methods and concepts to guide instruction, manage resources, elevate student performance, and utilize support from the entire school community. The Educational Leadership program of study provides a comprehensive forum for reflective practice as an instructional leader.
This degree leads to the initial New Jersey principal licensure. In addition to the appropriate graduate degree and completion of a mentorship, the State of New Jersey requires applicants to pass a state-approved exam that is aligned with the Professional Standards for School Leaders as defined in N.J.A.C. 6A:9-3.4.
The College offers three options within this program: Traditional; Immersion; and Global.
The Traditional Option is intended for those students seeking to enroll on a part-time basis and complete the program at their own pace . Coursework emphasizes meaningful, practical, active learning based upon problems principals encounter and upon the core issues of schooling, curriculum, and instruction.
The Immersion Option is an alternative leadership-training program that integrates clinical experience with coursework. The program is designed so that students may complete the requirements in approximately 14 months (four semesters) and earn a Master's degree in Educational Leadership. Instead of requiring a supervised practicum at the end of the course of study, this option is designed to pair a one-year field experience with the program of study (which students take as a cohort on a part-time basis). Students must complete an action research project that informs educators and helps answer questions about administering, teaching or learning.
The Global Option is available at the College's center in Mallorca , Spain .
