>Charleen Alderfer, Associate Professor of Counselor Education and Coordinator of the Ed.S. Program in Marriage and
Family Therapy, was elected President of the New Jersey Association for Marriage and Family Therapy for 2003-2004.

>MaryLou Ramsey, Professor of Counselor Education and Coordinator of the Master's Program in School Counseling, was elected President of the North Atlantic Regional Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. She will serve as President-Elect for 2004 and as President for 2005.

>On Thursday, May 6, 2004, the Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota,the Counseling Academic and Professional Honor
Society International, inducted 33 more students from the Department of Counselor Education into Chi Sigma Iota, thereby further cementing the ranking of the Department of Counselor Education as the 10th highest department in the nation in terms of the total number of students ever inducted into Chi Sigma Iota.

>Through the Faculty Ambassador Project (a three year federal award), the Department of Special Education, Language and Literacy is partnering with Jersey City, Middlesex County College, and Ramapo College to explore ways to use technology to help college students with disabilities improve achievement.

>Through the Brown consortium of First Year Seminars,7 professors from across the campus (including Elementary and Early Childhood Education) have been planning seminars for fall 2004. These faculty have attended professional workshops and meetings from an invitational only seminar at Columbia University, to the Brown at 50 meeting NYU to AERA.

>The School of Education is involved in a long term project with Harvard University and Dr. Ronald Ferguson. Sarah Kern met Dr. Ferguson at NYU in the spring of 2004 and they are now collaborating on his Tripod Project. The project examines student achievement in k-12 schools--specifically
the racial achievement gap.

>In the winter of 2004, Sarah Kern was awarded a commendation and monetary reward for her teaching and curriculum ideas from Worth Publishers.

>Sharon Sherman has been appointed director of the New Jersey Academy of Science Junior Division. The New Jersey Academy of Science is a private, non-profit, scientific and educational organization of scientists, science educators and others interested in science. It was founded in 1954, is affiliated with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and is a member of the National Association of Academies of Science.The purpose of the academy is to stimulate education and research in science throughout New Jersey.

>Sharon Sherman and Cathy Liebars have developed college- level courses in science and mathematics to help Trenton elementary and middle school teachers increase their content knowledge of these subjects.
