What is Hydroelectric Power?

A Renewable Resource:
Hydropower uses water to produce electricity. Water is held behind a dam and in reservoirs and released through an opening. Water flows through the openings where there is a turbine. The turbine spins when the water passes by. As the turbine spins it is attached to a powerhouse where energy is produced.

How does hydroelectric energy compare?

HYDROPOWER is the largest renewable resource.

Hydropower - Advantages:

1. Inexpensive
2. Clean
3. Inexhaustible
4. Safe, No fuel is burned

Hydropower - Disadvantages:

1.In times of little rainfall less power is produced because of a decrease in pressure
