Essential Knowledge for Fall Registration

First and foremost, please see your advisor prior to registration.  For many reasons, it is important that you receive sage advice and that we keep your records updated.  English faculty will be contacting their advisees by e-mail and/or posting sign-up sheets outside their offices, so please be sure to sign up.

1. Registration for the spring semester begins Wednesday, April 2 and runs through Friday, April 11.  Follow this link to see the schedule for registration and determine when you are eligible to register. Remember that the numbers in the schedule are earned hours and that courses you are taking right now won't count in the total.

2. If you don't know who your advisor is, then find out. Your advisor should be listed on your TESS account.  If you can't find it there, check the list on the bulletin board outside the English office. If you aren't listed there, please inquire in the English Department office or call the secretary at x2298.   Note: If Professor Rosemurgy was your advisor last year, you have been temporarily reassigned while she is on leave. If Professor Blake was your advisor last semester, you have been temporarily reassigned while he is on leave. In both cases, your temporary advisor should appear on TESS. Finally, if Professor Friedman is your advisor, you should see Professor Carney or Professor McCauley for advisement while she is on leave this semester.

3. We request that prior to meeting with your advisor, you review the requirements for your program (posted here under "English Programs"), check the courses offered, and devise a tentative schedule for Fall, including back-up courses in case your preferred choices are filled.  Also, please bring your updated Program Planner to your advisement meeting so that you and your advisor may assess your status both in your major program and in your college-wide requirements.   If you don't have a Program Planner, follow this link, then under Culture and Society, select the year you entered TCNJ or became an English major and then select your major program.

4. As usual, English Department courses are listed under several different headings on TESS.  LIT and JPW courses can predictably be found under "Literature " and "Journalism and Professional Writing," respectively.  However, be aware that you will find LNG courses under "English Language,"  EED courses under "English Education," and graduate courses under "English."  The prefix for Creative Writing is CWR, and those courses will be found under "Creative Writing."

5. If you have any questions that your advisor cannot answer, contact Professor McCauley or Professor Carney.
