Michael Robertson received the B.A. from Stanford, the M.A. from Columbia, and the Ph.D. from Princeton. His research and teaching interests are primarily in American literature and in gender and sexuality studies. His book Stephen Crane, Journalism, and the Making of Modern American Literature ( Columbia UP, 1997) received the Frank Luther Mott Award for the year's best book in journalism and mass communication. His forthcoming book Worshiping Walt is a group biography of Walt Whitman's disciples. He is President of the Faculty Senate and co-advisor of The White Ribbon Campaign, a campus group dedicated to ending men's violence against women.
