Welcome to the
web site of the School of Engineering at The College of
New Jersey. We are glad that you are visiting us
electronically. If you have not visited our
facility, we hope that you will have the opportunity to
do so in the near future.
As a
student in the school of engineering, you will have
frequent opportunities to interact with the faculty,
both inside and outside of class. Classes are
small and all are taught by full-time faculty. No
classes are taught by graduate assistants.
Our faculty consists of educators with national and
international reputation. You will find professors
here that take the time to hear your concerns, help with
a problem, talk to you about a summer job, or share in
your good news. While the primary responsibility
of our faculty is teaching, they are also active
researchers, authors, consultants, and regular
contributors in their academic discipline. Student
satisfaction for the program is very high.
Ninety-six (96%) percent of the 1999 and ninety-one
(91%) percent of the 2002 engineering graduates
indicated that they would recommend a TCNJ engineering
education to a friend or relative. Of
course, all Bachelor of Science programs in engineering
are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation
Commission (EAC) of the Accreditation Board for
Engineering and Technology (ABET). The Technology
Education program offered by the Department of
Technological Studies is accredited by NCATE and meets all
ITEA accreditation standards.
Placement
of our graduates at commencement is very high.
Employers of our graduates include General Electric,
Lockheed Martin, ITT, IBM, Mobil, Bristol-Myers Squibb,
Lucent Technologies, Raytheon, Merck, Ortho McNeil
Pharmaceutical, etc. Some of our graduates choose
to attend graduate school. The list of universities to
which our graduates have been admitted for graduate
study includes Stanford University, University of
Michigan, University of Pennsylvania, Cornell
University, Dartmouth College, Drexel University, Penn
State University, Lehigh University, as well as, the
University of Washington.
The student
population in engineering is very diverse.
Approximately 21% are women (one of the highest in the
nation) and 12% are African-American, Hispanic, or
Native American. Although a co-op program is not
required, many of our students obtain summer internships
or part-time engineering-related jobs.
The
engineering programs as well as the technology education
program offered by the School of Engineering are known
for the small faculty to student ratio (1:16).
The School is housed in
Armstrong Hall, a modern engineering facility with
outstanding laboratory and computer facilities.
The facility includes specialized laboratories for
Automated Manufacturing, Instrumentation, RF/Microwave,
Digital Signal Processing, Thermal-Fluids, Materials
Science, and Solid Mechanics and Mechanisms, surveying,
soil mechanics, biomechanics, etc.
Our web
site provides additional information describing the
faculty, facility, and the various programs that are
currently supported. Please feel free to contact
any faculty member or me directly for additional
information. If you would like to visit, please
e-mail us at
engineering@tcnj.edu or call the school secretary at
(609) 771-2529 for an appointment. We look forward
to hearing from you.
