The Surveying Lab provides students with hands-on experience to supplement instruction in surveying courses. The surveying course exposes students to the fundamental land surveying measurement methods and advanced techniques. This laboratory helps students gain familiarity with:

  • precision taping methods to perform horizontal measurements
  • total stations to perform horizontal, vertical and angular measurements
  • automatic and digital levels for elevation measurements
  • data collectors

In addition, students have the opportunity to use the newest computers to process field data and to produce, through computer-aided drafting, maps and plans.

The surveying lab equipment is also used by students in other courses such as Transportation Engineering to obtain survey data for course projects.
