Mechanical Engineering Program Outcomes

What TCNJ Mechanical Engineering students are expected to know and be able to do at graduation. What knowledge, abilities, tools and skills the program gives the graduates to enable them to accomplish the educational objectives

The Program Outcomes listed below are expected of all graduates of the Mechanical Engineering Program. ME graduates will have:

• an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering;
• an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data;
• an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs;
• an ability to function in multidisciplinary teams;
• an ability to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems;
• an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility;
• an ability to communicate effectively;
• the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global and societal context;
• a recognition of the need for and an ability to engage in life-long learning;
• a knowledge of contemporary issues;
• an ability to use the techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice;
• an ability to apply advanced mathematics through multivariate calculus and differential equations;
• familiarity with statistics, linear algebra, and numerical methods;
• a knowledge of chemistry and calculus-based physics with depth in at least one of them;
• an ability to work professionally on both thermal and mechanical systems areas including the design and realization of such systems.
