The College of New Jersey Summer Program in Montpellier South of France July 2- July 23, 1998.

Program: This program will provide all participants with an extensive study of the French language, and help them gain an appreciation of the country's culture. It will also impart an awareness and understanding of the economic, social, and cultural reality of modern France. Participants will receive three undergraduate credits through The College of New Jersey Summer School.
Location: The program will be held in the beautiful seaside city of Montpellier, capital of the Languedoc-Roussillon region. This is an ideal location for summer study because of its well-known university, climate, and attractive landscape. The central location offers students the possibility of visiting other major centers of culture, as well as famous beaches to the south and mountains to the north.
Courses for Credit: Two courses, beginner and intermediate, will be taught by a French professor from Montpellier and by Dr. Paola Blelloch of The College of New Jersey. There will be three organized day tours to places of interest, and visits addressing distinctive features of this French region.
Classes: Two-and-one-half-hour classes will be held five days a week for three weeks at the Faculté des Sciences in the historical center of Montpellier.
Accomodations: Participants will be lodged in a residence hotel in double rooms, with two rooms sharing a bathroom, a small kitchen and a studio. Tickets will be distributed for one meal a day at a student cafeteria.
Eligibility: All TCNJ students in good academic standing, and students from any other American college or university are eligible. College graduates, staff members, and members of the community at-large may also participate in the program. Previous knowledge ot French is preferred. Participants with no previous knowledge ot French may participate in an elementary conversation hour on a daily basis.
Program Director: Dr. Paola Blelloch, associate professor of French and Italian at The College of New Jersey, will be the program diector and coordinator. She has excellent knowledge of the Montpellier region and also has consideralbe experience leading student trips abroad. She will be joined by Dr. Debbie Pierce of Mississippi College and her students.
Application Procedure: Complete the tear-off page of the application form, and return it by April 15 with a deposit of $300. Full payment is due by May 15th, 1998.
Program Cost:
The cost of $1,855 will include: 1) a double room at a residence hotel
with cooking facilities; 2) twenty-one tickets for meals at a student cafeteria;
3) three organized excursions,one per
week by bus to places of interest; 4) tours of Montpellier, and other cities;
5) movies, and parties;
6) afternoon organized activities.
All charges, unless otherwise indicated, are based upon present rates and
present values of foreign currencies in relation to the US Dollar and to
current tarriffs, and are subject to adjustment in the event of changes
therein.
Travel Arrangements: Very competitive prices for air-fare travel between JFK/Newark and Montpellier are offered by several travel agents. Consult dr. Blelloch for advice. Three preparatory sessions will be held at Dr. Blelloch's house.
Personal Possessions: Luggage and other personal possessions are entirely the responsibility of the owner who is cautioned against the risk of leaving personal property on conveyances.
Booking and Conditions: A deposit of $ 300 per person is required at the time of booking. Full payment must be made no later than thirty days prior to departure.
Cancellations: Refunds will be made (less deposit) up to thirty days prior to departure. After that time, TCNJ reserves the right to deduct $400 per person to cover administrative expenses. Cancellations made twenty-one days or less prior to departure date will require a charge equivalent to fifty percent of the total cost of the basic tour round trip.
For medical reasons certified by a physician, the person is exempt, except for the $300 deposit, from cancellation charges. No refunds rendered for sight- seeing or services not used by the tour members. No refunds for passengers who do not arrive at airport ("no shows") on day of departure.
Baggage: Allowed free of charge to your first overseas destination and from most points of return to the U.S.A. Passengers may have maximum of two bags per person with a combined length, width, and height to 106 inches, provided no bag exceeds 62 inches- plus "under-seat" baggage, with total dimensions of 45 inches. Beyond the first overseas stopover point, as well as from points of return to the U.S.A., a free-weight allowance of 44 pounds. applies. Luggage can be registered directly to the Montpellier destination.
Transfer: By private conveyance between airport and residence, or by public transportation.
Tour price: Air transportation, tips, expenses of passports, additional luggage expenses, and all items of a personal nature are not included.
