Larry Gage's Home Page

Welcome! You are visiting the personal home page of Larry Gage, Ph.D., Counseling Psychologist, Clinical Coordinator, and Associate Director for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at The College of New Jersey. For more information about CAPS please visit us at our home page (click here) or in person! <<Please note: This page was first put up in the last millenium - doesn't it look like it? Someday...>>

About me: As the Associate Director of CAPS, my main role is that of Clinical Coordinator. I am licensed as a psychologist in New Jersey and Pennsylvania (inactive), and have worked over 30 years in the helping professions. I see a variety of student, staff, and faculty clients from the college, with staff/faculty contacts limited to consulting about referrals. I have taught courses in the department of Psychology as an adjunct and guest lectured in other departments. Activity outside The College includes private practice and consulting to organizations. This is my twenty-third year at TCNJ - that's long enough that the building I worked in when I arrived - the Hub - resides in a landfill somewhere. The Hub used to stand where Eickhoff Hall does now, back when the college was Trenton State.

At CAPS we are working hard to support our mission, maintaining our commitment to quality services. As part of the Center for Campus Wellness, we offer options to support individual and campus goals for wellness. I would welcome feedback/input - whether about current issues or new directions - from anyone moved to give it. If you have any opinions about anything to do with psychology, counseling, or how a counseling service best serves a college, please feel personally invited to e-mail me. The supportive input of others will help us to grow and stay current.

I have been privileged to be present when many courageous people have chosen to confront issues troubling them and make changes for the better. I am grateful for that; it is quite moving and inspiring. People have so much inside to draw upon, and it is incredible when that moment occurs where they tap into it. I do not take for granted someone's decision to seek help, and it is endlessly absorbing to formulate an adequate response to that decision. I work hard, yet I am a lucky man.

And Now to the Links...

What personal web page would be complete without a bunch of links? As always with the Web, take what you find with a grain of salt. I have tried to include only widely used and recognized sources, but sites are changing all the time. As a general strategy, I recommend looking for citations referencing legitimate refereed journals and other professional sources of information. Caveat emptor.

On-campus Links

Links you'll enjoy if you are more psychologically minded

Links specific to substance use, abuse, and treatment of the addictions

Links on the area of Wellness (Always more to come!)

Links to organizations about counseling and counseling centers

Note: this may be more than you ever wanted to know about a counseling center, but if your interests run in that direction I surely want to encourage it! If you are a student who wants to explore the counseling center setting, these will be just the thing for you.
