:: BIG Game - The Microsoft Funded Project to Develop an Interdisciplinary Games Course ::
The "Big Games" Course is a one year experience at TCNJ funded during 2005-2006 by Microsoft Research. More information will appear on this site during the next few months.
During the Fall 2005, a group of faculty with approximately 18 undergraduate students designed a "first person shooter" game in order to appreciate the complexity of the computer game process. Briefly, we looked at the relationship between (1) gaming, (2) artificial intelligence, (3) story and (4) 3-D graphics, (5) multiplayer gaming (6) sound/music. We realized that there is a tension between good gaming, story/mood, and the technology that can support this enterprise. Consequently we developed a story line that would allow us to pursue a FPS game implementation given our skill set and time constraints. During Spring 2006 we will attempt to implement some part of this game.
Public resources will be made available shortly. The bare-bones resources developed during Fall 2005 are available only through a password protected file structure. If you would like access please contact Ursula Wolz (wolz at tcnj.edu).
