The Game Design curriculum at TCNJ draws from all corners of one of the country’s leading liberal arts colleges. Artists, programmers, musicians, writers, designers, engineers and more — we all come together to make games, and also to consider the important role games play in our culture. Our classes have produced everything from sci-fi sandbox games to mobile games to games that immerse players in a foreign language. Every new year is a new opportunity, to create a game that responds to trends in the industry and also makes the most of the the skills and interests in the students and faculty involved.
Our courses emphasize the collaboration and project management skills necessary to succeed in the industry, from indie shops to the big studios. Artists learn to talk tech, and techies learn the importance of story and character development. Everyone gets acquainted with every step of design and development process.
Our game design curriculum draws students and faculty from across campus. The courses are offered by the College’s Interactive Multimedia program and Computer Science department, alongside a range of other courses that explore topics related to games, such as animation, interactive storytelling and artificial intelligence.
