WHAT IS COMPOSTING?

Composting is the recycling of food scraps, yard trimmings and other household organic matter.  Over time, bacteria and fungi decompose this stuff into a product that has many uses:
 
1.as potting soil
2.as mulch for lawns and gardens
3.to increase air and water absorption in soil
4.to decrease erosion
5.to suppress weed growth
6.to improve soil texture
 
 
Smarty Marty likes to compost as many things as he can, instead of throwing them away.  Here are some of the things he likes to put in his compost pile:
 
1.cardboard rolls
2.eggshells
3.gray cardboard boxes
4.sawdust
5.vacuum cleaner lint
6.clean paper
7.fireplace ashes
8.hair and fur
9.shredded newspaper
10.vegetable trimmings
11.coffee grounds and filters
12.tea bags
13.wool and cotton rags
