How do I use Microsoft Expressions Web 2007 to build/maintain my site?

The Help Desk provides tutorials on Microsoft Expression Web 2007 to assist with course related and personal Web sites.


How do I find out the password to my web account?

Look up or change web/email account password: http://account.tcnj.edu


How do I set up the web account on TCNJ's web server?

You will need to create a folder for the web site of the TCNJ web server.

Directions are using Microsoft Windows.

  1. Click on the Start Menu and click "Run."
  2. Once the Run box opens, type: "telnet beast.tcnj.edu"
  3. On the box that opens up, you'll want to login with your username and password.
  4. Once logged in, type: "wwwsetup" and press enter.
    This will set up your web site on the TCNJ server. You may view your premade home page at http://www.tcnj.edu/~unixname/

How do I delete my personal page off of the TCNJ server?

Directions for PC Users:

  1. Click on the Start Menu and click "Run."
  2. Once the Run box opens, type: "telnet beast.tcnj.edu"
  3. On the box that opens up, login with your unix (email) username and password.
  4. Once logged in, you can either:
    1. Delete the entire www directory (step 5)
    2. Delete only the index file (keep all other files). This will allow you to download files later using an FTP program. (step 6)
  5. To delete the entire www directory type: "rm -r www " and press enter. 
  6. To delete only the index file, which will keep people from being able to access your webpage files, type "cd www" and press enter. Then type "rm index.html" (note, depending on how you made your webpage, this index file may be .html, .htm or .php).
  7. Type "exit" to quit your telnet session.

 

Directions for Mac Users:

  1. Enter the Applications folder
  2. Go to the Utilities folder
  3. Run the Terminal application
  4. Continue from step 1 under the PC User directions

 


How do I connect to the web account on TCNJ's web server to upload/download/delete files?

You will need to upload the web page files to the server in order for them to be displayed on the web. You may use a web development tool such as Microsoft Frontpage or Macromedia Dreamweaver or an FTP client, such as FileZilla.
