Registration for this event
has been closed.
In this contest the contestant or team of contestants design and build
a solution to a problem disclosed 4 weeks before the judging.
A Gold medal and a $250 A-WIT Gift Certificate will be awarded to first
place.
A Silver medal and a $150 A-WIT Gift Certificate will be awarded to
second place.
A Bronze medal and a $50 A-WIT Gift Certificate will be awarded to third
place.
DesignAThon Chain of Events
Registration
Contestants will register for the
DesignAThon via the register link on the Events
page under the DesignAThon column. Upon successful completion of the
transaction, your package will be shipped. When you receive your
package it will include a
Microcontroller Activity Kit and a Design Number, this number is to be placed on
your entry in the DesignAThon so as to identify your entry while leaving
you anonymous, the package will also include two tickets to the 2008 Trenton Computer Festival.
Pre-Problem
Contestants should use the time between
them receiving the package and the problem being disclosed to
familiarize themselves with their Microcontroller Activity Kit. During
this time contestants can not only work through the existing projects
that comes in the A-WIT Documentation but also test their own ideas
that they believe will be beneficial to them once the DesignAThon
problem has been revealed. Problem
The problem will be disclosed four
weeks before the DesignAThon Judging (03-30-08)
Once the problem has been disclosed contestants will then be able to use
the remaining time to build a solution to the problem that best meets
the criteria for judging. Judging
Checklist
The following things are needed to
enter in the DesignAThon
1.) Solution to Problem using included
Microcontroller Activity Kit.
2.) Bill of Materials for items purchased in addition to the TCF 2008
DesignAThon Kit. 3.) Design Number
located on entry.
Judging
Contestants will go to the designated area
for DesignAThon entries during the DesignAThon Check In time and place
their entry with their Design Number in front of it.
NOTE: If your Design Number is not present, your
entry will not be able to be judged!
DesignAThon Entries will be judged on the following criteria (in
order of importance):
1.) How well it does what it needs to do (Functionality)
2.) How cheaply can it be made (Efficiency)
3.) How good it looks (Aesthetics)
