Moot Court competition involves oral argument of hypothetical cases before a simulated U.S. Supreme Court. Preparation for competition is done through a course, POL370/Topics in Political Science: Moot Court. The only prerequisite for the course is permission of the instructor/moot court coach, Dr. Daryl Fair. Students compete in teams of two with each student arguing one of the two issues presented by the hypothetical case; teams must be prepared to argue both sides of the case. Some, but not all, of the students taking POL370 will be selected to compete at a regional tournament of the American Collegiate Moot Court Association; regionals are held in November. Teams that qualify will compete at the national ACMA tournament in January.
