2009 Energy Savings Program
The College of New Jersey will once again conduct an Energy Savings Program during the calendar year 2009.
Designated Energy 2009 Holidays
The following seven holidays are designated as energy holidays for 2009:
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Monday, January 19
Lincoln’s Birthday Thursday, February 12
Washington’s Birthday Monday, February 16
Good Friday Friday, April 10
Columbus Day Monday, October 12
Election Day Tuesday, November 3
Veteran’s Day Wednesday, November 11
Eligible employees who work all seven energy holidays will earn 10 ½ days of Energy Savings Program leave time (1 ½ energy leave days earned for each energy holiday worked). Up to four and one half of leave days shall be applied to summer closures; one shall be applied to the day after Thanksgiving, and five to the winter closure.
Energy Closure Schedule
The attached 2009 Energy Closure Schedule details all scheduled 2009 energy closures. This schedule applies to members of the above-mentioned bargaining units, as well as to non-unit supervisory, and administrative staff.
The schedule for summer Friday closures includes ten weeks. Energy Friday closures will begin on Friday, May 22, 2009, and end on Friday, August 7, 2009. In order to accommodate the expanded summer closure schedule, a combination of extended work days and use of energy leave has been put into place as described in the 2009 Summer Work Week Schedule (link provided at the end of this document). Two holidays fall within the summer closure schedule, Memorial Day, and Independence Day. As detailed in the 2009 Summer Work Week Schedule (link provided at the end of this document) during those two weeks, the College will revert back to a regular work schedule as follows:
- Memorial Day - The College will be closed on Monday, May 25th in observance of Memorial Day. During this week there will be no Energy Friday closure, and employees will work a regular workweek schedule.
- Independence Day – The College will be closed on Friday, July 3rd in observance of Independence Day. During this week the Friday closure will be a regular holiday closure, and employees will work a regular workweek schedule.
The winter break will commence on Thursday, December 24, 2009 through Friday, January 1, 2010. Employees do not have to use earned energy leave for December 25th or January 1st, as they are designated holidays. Employees who did not work on the designated Energy Savings Program holidays may choose to apply vacation, administrative leave, or other earned compensatory time to the designated summer and winter Energy Savings Program closures. Please note that all earned energy leave days must be utilized within the 2009 calendar year.
