Request for Waiver from Affirmative Action Search
The Affirmative Action Search Process should be used in the recruitment of faculty and staff. Exceptions to this process may be requested and will be reviewed on an individual basis. In these cases, a Cabinet member may request a Waiver of Affirmative Action Search on behalf of the hiring unit. Please note that under no circumstances can we waive posting or appointment requirements mandated by existing bargaining unit agreements.
Exceptional Circumstances Include:
- To fill an immediate and urgent need ( temporary one year appointment)
- A grant specifies the Principal Investigator
- A department has the opportunity to secure a faculty or staff person on a permanent basis, independent of a specific vacancy or position, where the individual has highly specialized skills such that a search would not render as qualified a candidate.
- Instances where employment of a qualified member of a protected group furthers a diverse, inclusive and representative workforce.
- Instances where the transfer or promotion of an employee within a unit provided that the employee is fully qualified for the new position and was originally hired through a competitive search.
- Instances where employment of an accompanying spouse becomes beneficial to the College’s programmatic or diverse needs.
- The appointment of staff at an FTE of less than .50
- Appointments with an anticipated duration of less than six months.
