COM 103 Introduction to Communication Studies (Fall, 2007; Spring, 2008; Fall, 2008)

This course is an introduction to communication as a discipline of study. In particular, students will be introduced to various theories of communication. It is my hope that those who are interested in staying in the discipline will come away with a good idea of what communication scholars do, and perhaps get some ideas about courses and specialty areas students would like to pursue in their undergraduate (or graduate school) career. Others who are not sure about becoming a scholar in the field will learn more about the many areas of inquiry in the study of communication, an area in which all of us are practitioners.

COM 370 Future of Health Communication: New Media and Emerging Technologies (Spring, 2008)

This undergraduate seminar surveys the roles and effects of new media and emerging technologies in health communication in a variety of contexts. In addition, this course intends to forecast the future of new media in health communication. The primary goal of the seminar is to draw out theoretical and practical implications of new media in health communication through readings, discussions, case studies and empirical exploration.

COM 390 Methods of Communication Research and Analysis (Fall, 2008)

This course introduces undergraduate students to concepts and methods of research in communication. Students will read communication research in academic journals, learn social scientific principles and procedures, perform basic statistical tests utilizing the SPSS statistical package, and design and conduct an original communication research project to professional levels of excellence.
