COM 103 Introduction to Communication Studies

This course is an introduction to communication as a discipline of study. In particular, you will be introduced to various theories of communication. Specifically, you will understand the basic concepts and historical development of communication; the major social contexts in which communication takes place (intrapersonal, interpersonal, group, organizational, mass, cultural, and rhetoric); and the major approaches and methods used in communication studies. You will also appreciate the strengths and weaknesses of different communication theories; become an astute critic of communication theories; and apply communication theories to your everyday life.

COM 345 New Media and Health Communication

This undergraduate seminar is designed to explore the roles and effects of new media and emerging technologies in health communication in a variety of contexts. The primary goal of the seminar is to draw out theoretical and practical implications of new media technologies in health communication through readings, discussions, guest lectures, and empirical exploration.
