You will use the Iillustrator file you have downloaded as "Layer 1."

Create a new layer (it will be called "Layer 2") by clicking on the New Layer icon at the bottom of the Layers Pallett.

Draw on Layer 2 (Layer 2 must be highlighted in dark blue like the illustration above).

Open the Illustrator tutorials file (ill-tutorials-1 to 5) in Adobe Illustrator 10.

Lock Layer 1 by clicking in the box next to the eye in Layer 1. An icon of a padlock will appear that tells you that the layer is locked.

You can make Layer one invisible by clicking on the eye; clicking on the eye again makes the layer visible.
