Making a Connection for TCNJ

You will only need to perform the steps in this section once.

  1. Go to the My Computer icon on your desktop.
  2. Double-click on the Dial-Up Networking icon. If you don't see this icon, you probably don't have Dial-Up Networking installed. You need to install it before proceeding.
  3. Double-click on the Make New Connection icon.
  4. Enter TCNJ as the name of the computer you are dialing.
  5. Your modem should be already selected in the Select a modem box. If you have multiple modems, you may need to select the appropriate one.
  6. Click on the Next button.
  7. Fill-in the Area code box and the Phone number box (see the dialup phone numbers page for a list of valid area codes and phone numbers).
  8. Click on the Next button.
  9. Click on the Finish button.

Using the TCNJ Connection to Connect to the College

Follow these instructions each time you want to dial into the College.

  1. Go to the My Computer icon on your desktop.
  2. Double-click on the Dial-Up Networking icon.
  3. Double-click on the TCNJ icon.
  4. Enter your UNIX login name and UNIX password in the User name and Password boxes. Optionally, check the Save password box if your machine is secure.
  5. Verify the phone number and click on the Connect button.
  6. Your modem will now dial the College and connect.
  7. Next, your login and password will be verified, then you will be logged into the network.
  8. After the menu bar of the TCNJ connection window changes to Connected to TCNJ, you can then use your Internet software.
Note: On some Windows 95 systems and on Windows 98 systems, the connected window may display differently.
  9. When you are done using the Internet, close all of your Internet applications.
  10. Return to the Connected to TCNJ window and click on the Disconnect button.
Note: On some Windows 95 systems and on Windows 98 systems, you may need to double-click on the icon of the two connected computers in the system tray before getting the Dial-Up Networking box to display.
