We currently DO NOT support any SLIP software other than Trumpet Winsock for
Microsoft Windows 3.1 and 3.11 (not Windows for Workgroups 3.11).
This means that we cannot help with any other SLIP package including, but not
limited to:
- Chameleon Sampler (that comes with a lot of Internet books)
- Instant Internet
- Internet-In-A-Box
- MacPPP
- OS/2 Warp Internet Connection (or whatever they call it)
- Windows 95 Internet Dialup Software
If you want to use SLIP, download our Trumpet Winsock software. The college
even registered it for you already. Trumpet Winsock is known to work with
the following packages:
- Netscape 1.0N and 1.1N
- WS_FTP
- Trumpet Telnet
- Procomm Plus for Windows 2.1
- Queen's University 3270 (TN3270)
- Eudora *
- Pegasus Mail for Windows (the version with Winsock support) *
- most other Winsock 1.1 compliant applications
* - Currently not supported by The College of New Jersey
Generic Instructions for Using SLIP Software to Access TSC
Again, we regret that we do not have the time, nor the resources to help you
with configuring your non-Trumpet Winsock software. Please contact the
manufacturer with any questions.
Below is a generic description of what your dialup script in your
SLIP software needs to do. Following that are the settings most needed for
your software.
Generic Dialup Script Operation
This is the basic sequence of steps your dialup script needs to take to login to
TSCPride and start a SLIP session.
- Dial 771-2001

Your IP address is text and set your SLIP software to that IP address. (see below for a possible work-around if your software cannot do this)
- Your SLIP software should now be put into SLIP mode (however it does this).
- You can now use your Internet software.
- When finished, use your SLIP software option to end the SLIP session (typically by just hanging up the phone).
If you software cannot read the IP address for your machine from the screen and
set it appropriately, you need to set your IP address based on the
pride(#). Below is a list of pride(#) and their
corresponding IP addresses.
REMEMBER: When you dial-in, you never know which Pride port you will get
on, so DON'T base your IP address on the phone number you dial.
