Communication Initiatives - School of Art, Media and Music

AY 2005-2006

Regular communication currently takes place between the Dean and the Director for User Support Services.  There is also regular communication between the IT support specialist and the faculty for identifying issues, communicating any problems or changes, and problem solving.

IT will meet with the AMM faculty at the school meeting in November.

The school meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 9.   Members of IT will attend the school meeting to discuss the communication plan along with the growing need for academic computing support.   During the AMM meeting, IT will review the current budget process.

Fall 2005 Update

AD for USS, Director for USS and AMM support specialist attended the November meeting and discussed this communication plan as well as the IT budget process.

Develop a model for new initiatives and expand academic computing support for AMM.

There is a growing need for support of academic computing for AMM.   Faculty are considered the functional experts of the software and hardware that is purchased for their use, however, there is a need for additional support from IT beyond our current model.   IT will evaluate the current model and work to develop a partnership with the faculty to accommodate this growing need.

Fall 2005 Update

There was a common theme in many of the other schools that suggested this should be a campus wide initiative.

Develop plan for replacing specialized lab equipment.

There is some confusion about the IT replacement cycle and what is and isn't included. This came to light when we had a discussion about the wide format printer in the Art lab that will no longer be under service contract in spring 2006.   IT will provide inventory of the Art and Music labs and identify which items are in the IT replacement cycle and which are not.

Fall 2005 Update

Support specialist for AMM and AD for USS will request IT replacement equipment in the administrative budget for spring.  Additionally, once the budget requests as entered we will provide a list to the Dean of what will be replaced by IT and when.

Spring 2006 Update

Hardware replacement cycle document is drafted, awaiting final approval.  Will post once executive level approves.

Summer 2006 Update

Recommended replacement for art and music lab specialized equipment

Develop a plan for incorporating grants into the curriculum.

This will be a campus wide initiative as it affects many areas on campus.   The Microsoft gaming grant is a good example of why this discussion needs to take place now.   Originally funded with grant monies, there is a strong possibility that this will eventually be incorporated into the curriculum.    If this happens, we need to identify the funding source.

Fall 2005 Update

This is a campus wide initiative

Additional info - The summer upgrade for computers assigned to full time faculty and staff that are due for replacement will begin in Holman Hall on May 24 and in the Music Building on May 26, 2006.
