Communication Initiatives - Library
AY 2006-2007
Regular communication currently takes place between the Dean and the Director for User Support Services. There is also regular communication between the IT support specialist and the Library's IT liaison for identifying issues, communicating any problems or changes, and problem solving.
Different groups of individuals within both departments will meet on a regular basis.
The dean will continue to meet monthly with the Director for User Support Services. In addition to this, a group of library and IT staff will meet to discuss concerns, outstanding issues and upcoming initiatives. The support specialist, the AD for USS, the Assistant Dean for Public Services, the Assistant Dean for Technical Services, and the Systems Librarian will meet on a monthly basis to discuss the above topics. If there are on-going technical issues in the library, the AD for USS will inform the Director of IT.
Fall 2006 Update
Continue to meet monthly to discuss outstanding issues and upcoming projects. Discussion items from summer/fall 2006 include:
Voyager upgrade - Systems librarian worked with Unix admin on back end upgrade. SS worked with systems librarian to update individual client workstations
ADA software is installed and workstations are marked accordingly
Printing problems unresolved as of fall 2006 include on-going problems with libcat3 and incorrect default printers. Spring 2007 updates include printer project plan
New lab consultant student workers have been trained to supplement the IT support provided by the full time staff and the roving student lab staff
Supplies for the open areas and labs have been moved to a locked storage closet on the lower level
Recabled wire ties in computer labs
Spring 2007 Update
Printer project plans:
Developed and discussed long range plan for moving Canon copiers to strategic locations in the library to better use equipment
SS is working with network staff to resolve default printer inconsistencies
Review deleting print jobs from NDPS with IT staff
Requested upgrade to Endnote based on library request and campus usage
Student IT library lab staff currently positioned in the lab in room 2 may be moved to better support the larger client base in the first floor reference area
