Answers:
Q: How do I request new software?
A: Discuss your needs with the USS Support Specialist
who will be able to tell you if what you are requesting is a product
we have on campus license and therefore we will automatically renew
and upgrade it. If it ends up being a request for new software the
request should be submitted to the Dean's office for academic requests
or submitted through the annual requested budget process for administrative
requests.

Q: How do I request a new hardware
item?
A: Desktop and laptop PCs and Macs, and existing
printers are handled through the Computing Upgrade Plans, therefore
you do NOT need to make specific requests. To add new hardware equipment,
a printer where one did not exist before, or specialized computer
configurations, the same process is followed as new software. The request
should be submitted to the Dean's office for academic requests or
submitted through the annual requested budget process for administrative
requests.
Q: What if I identify a need after
the Requested Budget cycle?
A: For all academic requests please submit them to
the Dean's office. For administrative requests please submit your
request to your USS Support Spcialist who will then forward it to
the Director of User Support Services. Depending on the cost and urgency,
IT will do whatever it can to accommodate the request.
Q: How do we acquire machines for
new staff?
A: If the staff person is filling a vacant position,
the assumption is that they will use the machine of the prior person
in that position. If the person is coming into a new line, have the
Dean or Associate Vice President contact the Director of User Support
Services and an appropriate computer will be provided.
Q: What if my department is moving
into a new facility?
A: New facility requests such as equipment for a
new computer lab or multimedia classrooms will be identified as part
of the IT infrastructure budget. Required equipment will be identifed
and approve as part of the overall facility plans.
If there is a request for renovations to an existing lab or classroom,
that should be submitted to the dean's office for review and consideration.
The dean's office will work with IT if the request needs to be accommodated.
Q: What if I forget my login and password
to the Requested Budget system?
A: The IT Budget System uses your normal email username
and password. This is also called your "Unix" username and
password as it gives you access to the Unix servers on campus. If
you need help with your username and password please contact the IT
Help Desk at x2660.
