Computer Support Center Equipment Preparation and Distribution

The purpose of this guideline is to outline the standard operating procedures for the Computer Support Center when preparing and distributing computer equipment.

EQUIPMENT PREPARATION

I. Preparation of machine (If this is a new machine, skip to step II)

1. Ghost up labeled machine from recovered equipment. (this will be a machine that has come back from an upgrade and needs to be backed up) (destination-To be determined)

2. Remove cover and clean out dirt, dust, and visually inspect all hardware.

3. Update machine if necessary to standard settings i.e. 128mb Ram, adequate HD, etc.

4. Replace any noisy fans and or power supplies.

5. Run Troubleshooter disk with basic hardware tests and test floppy (r/w), CD, and audio.

6. Replace cover and all screws.

7. Visually inspect and clean equipment exterior.

II. Imaging machines.

1. Image machine with correct image for that model.

2. When image is finished downloading (sysprepping is the next step), stop at this point.  Sysprep will be performed in the field.

 3. Label machine, using yellow id label, with your name, date, and the following specs: Mhz, Ram, HD size, and indicate that it has been prepped and tested with troubleshooter.

4. Store the prepped machine in designated location.

III. Installation preparation

1. Gather correct equipment for each machine. (Dell monitor for Dell CPU, etc...)

2. Make sure all equipment had been thoroughly cleaned and tested.

3. Assist with delivering and installing equipment.

EQUIPMENT DISTRIBUTION

I. Project Information

1. Receive project information from Support Specialist at least 2 working days in advance. Incomplete or erroneous paperwork will be returned for review.

2. Review paperwork for any equipment that would require an upgrade according to current procedures.

3. Identify equipment requiring upgrade.

4. Review findings with Support Specialist and appropriate supervisors.

II. Installations

1. Support Specialist to schedule installations in Meeting Maker at least 2 working days prior to installation date. Scheduled installations should include CSC Project Specialist and appropriate supervisors.

2. Deliver equipment to designated area. Delivery schedule to follow data backup procedures.

3. Install new equipment and allow Support Specialist to sysprep and restore data.

4. Remove old equipment and return to shop for evaluation after equipment has been identified using a yellow id label.
