PhoneMail Insructions for Students

Detailed Instruction


Changing Your Initial Password

  1. Dial Direct Access Number: 2053
  2. Press # if you are calling from your own extension. (If you are not calling from your own extension, dial your four-digit extension number and then press #.)
  3. Enter your initial password: 111
  4. The system will notify you that your are logged into the system using an unsecured password.  It will then require you to change it. Your password must be a minimum of 6, and no longer than 10 digits.

Recording Your Name

  1. Dial Direct Access Number: 2053
  2. Press # if you are calling from your own extension.  (If you are not calling from your own extension, dial your four digit extension number and then press # .)
  3. Enter your password.
  4. Listen to the prompts.
  5. Press 8 for Answering Options
  6. Press 4 for Record Name
  7. Press 1 to Record Your Name
  8. The system will prompt you to record your name at the tone. When you are finished, Press * #.

Recording Your Personal Greeting

  1. Dial Direct Access Number: 2053
  2. Press # if you are calling from your own extension. (If you are not calling from your own extension, dial your four digit extension number and then press # .)
  3. Enter your password.
  4. Press 8 for Answering Opitons
  5. Press 1 for Personal Greetings
  6. Listen to the prompts

Maximum Number of Messages

The maximum number of messages that can be stored in one mailbox is 8. It is recommended that you check your mailbox periodically throughout the day and delete any unwanted messages.


Listening to PhoneMail Messages

  1. Dial Direct Access Number: 2053
  2. Press # if you are calling from your own extension.(If you are not calling from your own extension, dial your four digit extension number and then press # .) You may also dial the Off-Campus Access Number from any touch-tone telephone off campus.
  3. Enter your password.
  4. Press 3 for Listen

The system will then play each message for you. Each message will be preceded by a message header, which will include who the message is from, and the date and time it was received.

  • After each message is played you have the option to:
  • Press 4 to Save the message
  • Press 6 to Delete the message
  • Press 7 - 3 to Replay the message

At this point you can:

  • Press # to Continueto the next message
  • Press 1 to Answer the person who sent you the message
  • Press 9 to Forward the message to another person on the system
  • Press 7 - 0 to Call the Message Sender's Phone

Leaving a Silent Message

This will leave a silent message on someone else's PhoneMail mailbox without ringing their phone.

  1. Dial the Guest Access Number: 2054
  2. You will be prompted to enter the extension number of the party you wish to leave a message for.
  3. When your message is complete, you may hang up.

Forwarding Calls into Other's PhoneMail

This will forward all calls directly to PhoneMail if you do not want to be disturbed by incoming calls. Callers will be connected directly to your PhoneMail to leave a message. You may continue to make calls from the phone normally.

  1. Pick up your handset.
  2. Press the Forward key.
  3. Dial Forward Access Number: 2055
  4. Hang up.
  5. The indicator light next to the button labeled with your extension (just above the HOLD key) will flicker continuously to show that your phone has been forwarded.

To Cancel Forwarding of all calls directly to PhoneMail:

  1. Pick up your handset.
  2. Press the Forward key.
  3. Hang up.
  4. The indicator light next to the button labeled with your extension (just above the HOLD key) will stop flickering and remain dark. Your phone will now ring normally when called.
