Flash Project: Status Report #1

Date of Report: 04/20/2004

I have taken several preliminary steps to organize the content of my flash project. So far, I have selected a collection of my photography/artwork to be used as the basis for my interactive portfolio. I have taken these images and have converted them to appropriately sized jpg files for web viewing. This was done using Adobe Image Ready. I have grouped the images into a flash file library to work with as I need them throughout the project.

The biggest challenge of this project will be to develop a method of navigating through the website by clicking on various visual clues (words, images, etc.) In doing so, I must keep the file size as small as possible, while still keeping the image quality intact. I have researched several ways to do this, and have viewed a number of examples of flash-based portfolios. I will most likely use thumbnails to navigate throughout the site, and will create these using a similar process to the one mentioned above that was used to reduce file size.

I have also looked into several methods of utilizing action script to import images independently of the initial flash file. This task seems to require a rather extensive knowledge of actionscript and java, and I will most likely create the portfolio using a different method. Some action script will be used, however, to control the functions of the movies and buttons in the flash file, as to allow the user to navigate and interact with moving objects.
