IBM Home Page Reader
Changing what language is used to read the document
HPR offers the following language settings:
- "Automatic", where HPR tries to determine the language of the web document
- American English
- British English
- Spanish
- French
- German
- Italian
When HPR speaks a web page, it uses the defined language to speak the page text, alt text, and text that identifies a page element. For example, if Spanish is the defined language, when HPR encounters "start of form 3", HPR speaks this text in Spanish. However, HPR speaks most HPR messages in the default HPR language.
There are two ways to change the language setting. The language shortcut is simpler, but requires the use of the Control key, which is located on the standard keyboard rather than the numeric keypad. You can also change the language setting using the Settings menu. In this case, you will only use keys that are located on the numeric keypad.
One step to change the language setting using the language shortcut:
- Hold Control and use the numeric keypad to type in the code for the
language setting you prefer. The codes are:
- Automatic -- 0
- American English -- 1
- British English -- 2
- Spanish -- 3
- French -- 4
- German -- 5
- Italian -- 6
