Minutes:

 

Doug Smith (Chief/President)

  • Reviewed Call Statistics for Aug. 15 – Sept. 15, 2005
    • The top responder is Cyril Kurian with 14 calls
    • Will be compiling the next Call Statistics so if anyone has any call reports, please hand them in to Doug
  • The request for a LEMS Ready Room on campus was denied by Residence Life
    • LEMS will be searching for other alternatives/avenues to procure a room
  • Met with Lawrence Township First Aid Squad
    • Applications are available from Doug (smith46@tcnj.edu)
    • Requirement is 6 hrs/week every week
    • According to the info Doug received, they do not want new EMTs on the squad
    • According to the info Kevin received
      • Lawrence Township is requesting 10-12 members to join the squad
      • Responsible to cover a duty night
      • If you have an EMT certification, they will train you on the job
      • LEMS members can join if they wish to acquire experience with KEDs, HARE tractions, stretchers, working with paramedics, going to the hospital, etc.
      • However, the primary responsibility is still to cover shifts on TCNJ campus
  • Upcoming Events in which LEMS can increase its publicity
    • Nov. 7-13 is the National Collegiate EMS Week
      • Brainstorming ideas for events that could be held during this time
    • Fun Day next weekend – family event with children
      • Ideas for activities:
        • Borrow an ambulance from Pennington and let children walk through – deemed unfeasible due to lack of ambulance
        • Teach children how to put on slings
        • Contests: Guess how long it takes to put someone in a backboard – winner receives a FA kit
        • Guess the number of bandaids in the jar
    • If anyone has any ideas for these events, please email lionsems@tcnj.edu
  • Members please sign up to volunteer at Six Flags Great Adventure (Oct. 29th) and at Fun day
  • Took an inventory of all members interested in obtaining a LEMS sweatshirt that will cost appromately $30
  • State Convention for EMS will be held from the 19-22nd.  The price is $15 a day but this money might be reimbursed.  Many CEU courses will be offered during this time.  For a list of courses and their descriptions, email Doug at smith46@tcnj.edu
  • Asked new members and new crew chiefs for any feedback about how they feel about LEMS; do they feel involved? Lost? Etc.
    • If you have any comments or suggestions, feel free to email or talk to Doug at smith46@tcnj.edu

 

Bruce Cheong (Deputy Chief)

  • There will be a lot of standby events this upcoming weekend that will be difficult to cover since many members will be going home (i.e. Frisbee Tournament, Homecoming Events, etc.)
  • If you will be here during the Fall Break, please cover these events so that LEMS can continue to provide adequate coverage to the TCNJ campus

 

Kevin Mnich (Training and Personnel Captain)

·         National Collegiate EMS Week

o       Will help get the word out about LEMS

o       Ideas: table in Student Center with banner, EMS videos to be shown on TV, give away FA kits, hang a large banner, send a campus-wide email about the week, fliers around campus

o       Goal is to have 1 event/day to get the word out about who we are and what we do

o       By next week, please come up with some concrete ideas; we will be splitting into groups to work on these activities

·         Next week’s meeting will be a drill

·                     The EMT course for this semester has recently begun

o       If you are still interested or needs a Training Fund Form, please email Kevin (mnich2@tcnj.edu) ASAP

o       Other EMT courses will be offered next semester by Capital Health and others

·         Metuchen will be holding many CEU credit courses during the same weekend

o       If you are interested in obtaining CEU credits, please email Kevin for the registration form

·         The NJ State First Aid Council has made available to every member of LEMS a $50,000 Life Insurance Policy that is good for a whole lifetime and is free

o       The Policy starts in February

o       You must be older than 17 and younger than 65 to apply

o       Form was passed around for members to fill out

o       An email will be sent out to all members tonight

·         LEMS members will be receiving new IDs soon

o       These cards will contain information about EMT or FA, Crew chief or member, and the SOCS photo

o       There is no cost to LEMS for the new cards

o       All members will be required to wear the cards when on duty

·         Kevin is offering Great Adventure Season passes for next year (2006 Season) at $58 a ticket

o       If interested, contact Kevin

o       If any family or friends are interested, have them contact you and give you the money; then, you can email it or give it to Kevin in one package

 

Ricky Blasi (Equipment Captain)

  • Keep the LEMS bags stocked and if they aren’t stocked, stock them

 

Nicole (Executive Vice President)

  • Please feed the “hungry binder” with member applications if you have not done so yet!
  • Distributed prizes to some members who had completed their applications

 

Chris McKittrick (Vice President for Member Services and Special Events)

  • Family Fun Day will be occurring before the football game
    • Members are needed to staff the LEMS table and run carnival games
    • There are 2 shifts: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.
  • LEMS will also be covering the Homecoming Events
  • If you are interested in covering either of these events, please contact lionsems@tcnj.edu

 

Abigail Huang (Secretary)

  • If you are a new active duty crew member, please email Abigail with your name and contact information (huang2@tcnj.edu) so she can compile a new active duty crew member email list

 

Regina Cummings (Treasurer)

  • Vicariously asked for the inventory of members interested in sweatshirts

 

Carolyn Botros (Fundraising Chair)

  • LEMS needs more people to volunteer at Great Adventure
    • The event is on October 28th from 4 p.m. – 12 a.m.
    • In order to volunteer, you do not need to be a member of LEMS
    • In return, every volunteer will receive a one-day free pass to Great Adventure for next year’s season

 

Charlie Concodora (Growth Chair)

·         Informed members of a NJ State Program called Volunteer Tuition Credit Program

    • In exchange for 4 years on a volunteer squad, the member will receive $600/yr that can be applied only to tuition costs at a community college
    • If interested, you need Doug Smith’s and the municipal officer’s signatures

Nimit Saraiya (Publicity Chair)

·         The new and updated LEMS website is almost completed and will be posted online soon

·         Please visit the new forum site

·         An email will be sent out to members informing them when the new site is ready
