TCNJ Provost Emeritus Passes Away
Dr. Gordon I. Goewey, provost emeritus, died on December 18, 1999,
at the Princeton Medical Center. Dr. Goewey began his tenure at
The College as vice president for academic affairs in 1972 and
was promoted to executive vice president and provost in 1978.
He retired from The College in 1984. Dr. Goewey was known for
his compassion, his warm personality, and his commitment to providing
high-quality education at The College. Born in Troy, NY, Dr. Goewey
began his career in education in 1949 at the State University
College of Arts and Sciences at Geneseo, NY. There he held successive
appointments as professor and chair of the music department, director
of summer sessions, and dean of graduate studies.
Among his professional activities, Dr. Goewey was
actively involved with the Resource Associates of the American Association
of State Colleges and Universities, and was a member of various
professional and honorary organizations including the American Association
for Higher Education and the American Association of University
Administrators. Dr. Goewey was active in the community as a member
of the Trenton Rotary Club, as president and board member of the
Trenton Torch Club, and as vice president and board member of the
George Washington Council of Boy Scouts. Dr. Goewey is survived
by his wife, Marie, her daughter and son, Mary Jo Townsend of New
Jersey and John Huening of Florida, and his son and daughter, Todd
of Florida and Lynne of New York.

Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees recently
approved two new majors and a minor. A new interdisciplinary
master's degree in educational technology will be offered
beginning in fall 2000. This program will prepare teachers
through pedagogical applications to become leaders in the
integration of computer technology. The Board also approved
a new undergraduate major in Women's and Gender Studies
beginning in fall 2000. In addition, a minor in art history
will be offered beginning in spring 2000.
