About Me
|
My name is Brian McGrath and I am a Junior History/Secondary Education major at The College of New Jersey. While studying at TCNJ I have been highly devoted not only to my studies, being an active member of Kappa Delta Pi International Honors Society in Education, but I have also been extremely dedicated to my extracurricular activities. As an avid Ultimate Frisbee player I have been treasurer of the TCNJ Ultimate team and am an active member of various campus organizations, including the Secondary Education Teachers Association; the TCNJ Progressive Student Alliance; TCNJ Musical Theatre, where I have performed in a multitude of musicals and other performances. I feel that my experiences here at TCNJ have thoroughly prepared me to be an active member of the community I live in as well as preparing me for a long and promising career as an educator. |

History has always been an important part of my life. For as long as I can remember I have always been intrigued by the past and have thoroughly enjoyed learning about it. I was fortunate enough as a high school student to have some of the best teachers I have ever encountered as my history teachers. Their love and excitement for history and their ability to spread that excitement to their students inspired me to pursue a career in history and secondary education. It is my hope that someday I can instill the same excitement for history in my students as they did for me. |

In addition to teaching social studies it is my hope to be actively involved in my school through advising extracurricular activities. I have been an active Ultimate player for over six years and have been actively involved in the creation and organization of a county wide Ultimate league in Sussex County, New Jersey. It is my hope that as an educator I can advise or coach an ultimate club or team at my school. |

In the Fall of 2006 as part of Professor Gosselin's secondary education course, Pedagogy in Secondary Schools, I taught three 7th grade American History classes, including one special education inclusion class at Grover Middle School in West Windsor-Plainsboro, New Jersey under the supervision of George Agalias. I feel that this experience has shown me that teaching is the right profession for me and it has prepared me for a life of hard yet thoroughly rewarding work. |
