Unit Curriculum Standards

 

A.     6.1.8 (Social Studies Skills) A.1- Analyze how events are related over time.

Students will be able to relate how the creation of the Constitution led to a complex and functional government to implement the ideas set forth in the Constitution

B. 6.4.8 (United States History) E.5- Discuss the political and philosophical origins of the United States Constitution and its implementation in the 1790’s.

By learning about the actions that Washington’s administration took to guide the U.S. down a particular path, students will be able to see how the Constitution was implemented to create a functional government.  Students will see how Washington implemented the Constitution through the creation of a Cabinet, the Judiciary Act and his actions during the Whiskey Rebellion.

C. 6.1.8 (Social Studies) A.11 – Summarize information in written, graphic, and oral forms (lessons 2, 3, 5 and 6)

Students will summarize information from online activity through class discussion and essay homework assignment.

Students will meet this standard by completing a graphic organizer with important information concerning the beliefs of Jefferson and Hamilton.

  1. 6.2.8 (Civics) A.5 – Discuss examples of domestic policies and agencies that impact American lives, including the Environmental Protection Agency (e.g., clean air and water), the Department of Labor (e.g., minimum wage) and the Internal Revenue Service (e.g., Social Security, income tax).

Students will meet this standard by seeing how the Alien and Sedition Act impacted the lives of Americans during the Presidency of John Adams (Lesson 4).  Students will learn that the Alien and Section Act compromised their 1st Amendment rights which will allow them to see how life could have been altered for everyday Americans.

E. 6.4.8 (US History) E 6- Describe and map American territorial expansions and the settlement of the frontier during this period (lesson 5).  The map will allow students to view the expansion of the United States.

Students will meet this standard by completing their homework assignment which maps out the Louisiana Purchase.
