497 should be taken by SENIORS and is offered each semester if there is a sufficient number of SENIORS to fill the course.

SPANISH/SEC EDUCATION MAJORS MUST TAKE MDL 390 (as their optional course) AND SPAN 489/90.

IMPORTANT: The state of NJ now requires as a minimum an OPI rating of ACTFL Adv Low AND a state-approved course in second language acquisition (MDL 390) for ANY CERTIFICATION to teach Spanish (Pre-K, Elementary, Middle or Secondary.)

[1] If entering freshmen take 203/210 and 215 during their first semester, they will not be able to register for more than one course (211) the following semester because of the prerequisites listed above for 216, 217 and 241.
