are you an archaeology student with red hair?
There may be a private scholarship especially designed just for you! The following information may guide you as you search and apply for private scholarships according to your interests, experiences, attributes and background.
The Private Scholarship Page of the Student Financial Assistance Website: www.tcnj.edu/~sfs/aid/scholarships.html lists and links three scholarship searches:
"Fast Web" is a free scholarship search which indexes "600,000 scholarships worth $1 billion". To use Fast Web, students must log into the website (www.fastweb.com) and create a profile from very broad lists of ethnic origins, activities, academic honors, personal attributes and interests. Fast Web will then summarize your profile and create an initial list of customized scholarship opportunities for you to consider. Fast Web will also regularly email you with updated opportunities as they occur.
The "College Scholar" search engine is also a personalized scholarship service which matches you to a large database of private scholarships. This is not a free service; there is a one time fee of $39.95 ($49.95 for foreign students). The service will "build a scholarship package just for YOU, listing detailed information only on the scholarships that match YOUR criteria". They will also write "personalized letters with YOUR information to each scholarship. You simply sign and mail the letters to the scholarship contacts".
"National Competitive Scholarships and Fellowships" is an actual listing and description of major scholarships and fellowships such as the Fulbright Program, the Goldwater Scholarship, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholarship Program, the National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowships, Udall undergraduate scholarships and others. The site also links students to "Competitive Scholarships and Fellowships on the Internet". Several university based search sites found here actually list many, even hundreds of scholarships depending on search criteria, for students to explore and search directly. Most of their scholarships are not limited to the university that created the site. These searches are excellent! They are free, they are exhaustive and they allow the student to browse hundreds of scholarships directly, to narrow them down and to research and apply for those which are applicable.
