MUS 261 / Musicianship I (1 course unit)
(every semester)
Prerequisite: Music major, music minor or permission of the instructor
This course serves as an introduction to fundamentals of music theory, two-part species counterpoint, beginning four-part harmony and tonal analysis, utilizing tonic and dominant relationships and some Schenkerian analytical procedures, basic analysis of early Western and non-Western music, sight singing, using the movable Do system, and melodic, rhythmic, and harmonic dictation skills in the major key.
